Description
VIPER CNC VT-17L Available for Heavy Cutting The heavy-duty CNC turning center VT-17L offers travels of 9.85" on the X-axis and 17.7" on the Z-axis with an 8" chuck. The Meehanite cast-iron bed construction provides machine tool accuracy and reliability, as the heat treatment provides release of residual stress. The 30° slant-bed design with integrated torque tube structure gives the machine stability in heavy-cutting operation and optimal chip removal. The cutting forces are increased, resulting in a high degree of precision. Both X- and Z-axes are supported by oversized, hardened ground box-type ways. The headstock has thermal deformation prevention design for higher accuracy. Located on the headstock, the 15 HP, 5,000 RPM, 98 ft-lbs spindle provides the cutting feedrate of 945 IPM. Made of SCM21 alloy steel, the spindle offers speed on surface finishing and metal removal. The P4 grade angular contact thrust spindle bearings from NSK, SKF or FAG help ensure precision turning during long-term operations. The large, rigid, precision ground turret is non-stop and bi-directional. It is designed with 10 stations that allow 3/4" shank height square tooling and Ø1" shank diameter for boring tool with minimal tool interference. The curvic coupling, hydraulic clamping and position encoding designs are to enhance reliability and cutting capability. For programming, Fanuc 0iT, 21iT and 18iT controls are utilized on spindle control and processor for high-speed computation. "I like VIPER's design. The complexity and close-tolerance features allow us to cut a wide range of hard materials such as titanium, bronze, inconel, hastelloy and stainless steel precisely," said Dave Mosier, president of S & S Precision, Santa Ana, CA. S & S has purchased five VIPER machines, including three VT-17L models, most of which are used in short and long run high-end aerospace production for customers such as B.F. Goodrich and G.E. Engines. The machines are also used in industries such as commercial assembly, prototype production and engineering. For more information contact: Jim 714-6121480
