Description
This is a no reserve/Buy It Now auction for a limited production Black AKAI GX-646 Stereo Reel To Reel Deck. It comes with a bound copy of the Original Operator's Manual (English only version)...but NO Dust Cover, Hubs, or Reels are included. This is the predecessor to the highly regarded Akai 747 models. Notable features include Feather Touch Logic Transport Buttons, indestructible GX Glass & Crystal Ferrite Play Back/Record Heads (6 total heads with both way recording/play back), Direct Drive Main/Capstan Motor, 2 Speeds(3-3/4 & 7-1/2 ips), Real Time Tape Counter, Timer, One Way & Continuous Play Switching, EE Tape capable, Bias Adjustment, Pitch Control, Wired and Infrared Remote friendly and 7" & 10.5" reel capacity. Operation-wise: It does Power On, Fast Forward, Fast Rewind, Pause, Stop, Record functions work, the Pinch Roller engages, etc...but, there's some issue with the play back speed in both directions. (It runs too fast. Could be something as simple as Pinch Roller pressure adjustment or possibly some complex electrical problem.) So, as a result it's being offered AS IS ONLY FOR RESTORATION OR, AT MINIMUM, FOR PARTS. SO, PLEASE BID ACCORDINGLY. Cosmetically: The side, top, bottom and back panels are in nice condition. The upper faceplate has some visible surface blems between the reel tables. Looks like maybe some adhesive residue that could be possibly be removed with a little work. And, on the lower faceplate by the 646 label, there's more adhesive and a couple small scratches. Otherwise, the all controls, buttons, knobs etc., are intact and in great shape. I believe the description & photos accurately represent this item, but PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS, request additional pics, etc. before bidding since, again, I'll only gurantee it to the extent that it will arrive as described and not DOA. Once payment clears, it will be bubble-wrapped/double boxed and SHIPPED FREE FedEx Ground Insured with tracking, the same or next business day to a CONFIRMED address anywhere in the Lower 48 USA ONLY, please. FREE LOCAL PICKUP (Houston/NASA area, 77058) is also an option, once payment clears, and with prior arrangements. Please note I require Check Out with 48 Hours of the auction close and, after 48 hours, I reserve the right to offer this item to the next highest bidder or to relist. Also, if you have no prior eBay buying/selling history (zero feedback,) please do not bid/activate BIN without contacting me first to verify your name, address, phone # and payment method, or your bid/purchase will be canceled. Thanks for looking at this highly desirable vintage Akai deck...and best of luck to all bidders!
