Description
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Collins 30L-1 Round Emblem HF Linear Amplifier – Serial No. 40079. This amp is factory original (except see below), and wired for 117VAC. A bound copy of the full manual, with service bulletins, is included. The front panel has some tiny blemishes but no wear marks, and there are only some very slight scratches on the cabinet. I’ve used this amp on all bands (10 meters is factory standard) including the WARC bands (<200 watts to be legal on 30). From a 15 amp AC line it produces 600+ watts output from its four (4) 811-A tubes. Cosmetically it is in very clean condition. For Specs see: http://www.wa3key.com/30l1.html To read user comments, see: http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/1133 This amp always worked well for me but several years ago I felt the HV electrolytics looked a little tired so I installed Bill Noonan’s (ex-W6WJN) W6BN Diode/Cap board in the power supply. The new board replaced the original cap/bleeder board which I will include with the amp (see photo). All the original hardware is installed with the new board. The original Collins HV diode board is still installed underneath the chassis, but disconnected. See: http://www.w6bn.com/30l1.asp I can’t tell much difference with the new board but the regulation specs are better (the key-up plate voltage is 2KV DC, see Bill’s site), and the components certainly look much newer, matching the overall clean condition of the amp. When I installed the board, I did an overall P/M cleaning & lubed the fan. Lastly, a serial number (not this amp’s) has been lightly dremeled into the top of the cabinet ring. Please note that the key line of this amp has -170VDC across it open-circuit & draws several hundred ma. when it’s pulled to ground, so you should plan to use an external relay if you’re going to use a modern exciter to key this amp. I haven’t been using this 30L-1 lately and I would like to place it where classic Collins quality will be appreciated. The shipping cost reflects that the amp will be carefully packed to avoid damage, & the tubes will be shipped in a separate box. As vintage equipment, it is sold ‘As-is’.
