This is not only an Empire Troubador but it's the 598 III version which is QUAD, CD-4 format, including the original Empire 4000 D/III cartridge and stylus (5-50,000 Hz sensitivity, .25-1.25 gram tracking). This will play both stereo and quad 33 RPM LP's as well as 45's. You will need a quad adapter to convert the signal to quad for your quad system. Quad is virtually the early version of surround sound. You will also need records recorded in quad or all you'll have is stereo. Many audiophiles have several of these turntables but few have this quad version. This is a belt drive, heavy platter, two speed unit. We used this in our main SAE system but have gone to Marantz which won't handle the MM (moving magnet) cartridge this unit has (Empire 4000 D/III Specs). Smooth simple operation. This unit works great and is GUARANTEED to do so! We don't know how many hours are on the stylus so you may prefer to replace it. The only notable flaw which shows in one of the photos is that the dust cover has a large scuffed section. We were going to either replace the plexiglass (an easy inexpensive fix) or tint it dark to give it a more contemporary look. The tone arm rest light works fine as well. We've shipped a lot of turntables and will remove both the platter and tone arm for shipment as well as secure the motor while protecting the dust cover section. We have the original box (see photo) but NOT the original internal packing materials. We are moving the audio portion of our business away from our regular long term selling ID to make it easier for our buyers to bookmark and track our audio items. This TT was grouped with a set of AR-9 speakers (sold), a Dynaco 400 amp (coming soon), a Nakamichi 600 cassette (in our other auctions) and much more when we purchased it from the original owner who moved across the USA and eventually opted to part with it.
