Kantronics KPC-9612 1200/9600 Baud TNC Release 8.2 APRS Start Price USD 24.00 Current Price USD 207.50 Time Left - Bid Count 17 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Tuesday, September 02, 2008 End Time Tuesday, September 09, 2008 Location Northwest Vermont See more about 'Kantronics KPC-9612 1200/9600 Baud TNC Release 8.2 APRS' Description Up for your consideration is this nice Kantronics KPC-9612 Packet TNC.  It can do 1200 & 9600 Baud Packet simultaneously!  It has the latest Version 8.2 Firmware Release.  This includes all your favorite APRS Digi commands plus a host of other useful Packet related functions.  Some of the other uses include: GPS, DAMA, POCSAF Paging, & EMWIN.  Now, I'm not even sure what some of those terms mean :-).  I got them from the Kantronics web site. The case is in very nice condition, with just minor scratches on it, that did not photograph very well.  A power supply is included.  Kantronics did not even provide one of these when new.  It is a 12 volt, 1 amp power cube that is twice as strong as the 500 mW version included with most other TNCs.  Also included in this auction is the detailed User's Manual.  It is called the "Getting Started and Reference Manual" for Version 5.2.  It has a full list of all of the original commands plus instructions on how to build the needed radio cables, which are not included.  You will also need to provide a standard serial cable: DB9 to DB25.  In addition, I will email the winning bidder a copy of the manual that explains all of the new commands for Firmware Version 8.2.  It is a 36 page Users Guide Addendum for this TNC, as well as the KPC-3 & the KAM Plus.  I have a hard copy here that I found in a freebie bin at a local Hamfest, but I am keeping it for my KPC-3 ver 8.2 (sorry).  Version 8.2 introduced several new commands and advanced digipeating. You are probably familiar with the basic functions of this very popular TNC.  However, I'll touch on a few here anyway.  They include: PBBS, KA-Node, Gateway, Remote Access, HOST Mode, and KISS Mode.  The KISS Mode operation requires TCP/IP programs such as NET, NOS, or JNOS.  I have never tried it myself.
