Description
Today I am listing a vintage Lansing 285 field coil driver. Those viewing the auction will most probably know the rarity of such an item and will need little explanation on how hard such a unit is to come across. This unit dates from somewhere during the late 1930's and was designed to rival the Western Electric 555wInformation about this model driver can be found at this lansing resource:http://www.lansingheritage.org/images/lmco/bulletins/6a.jpgThis unit is untested as i do not have the Shearer horn or other compatible horn to attach to it. I also do not have the low watt amplifiers needed to drive such a unit, so i have left it untested - as not to damage it.The overal cosmetic condition of this unit is good, considering it is 70 + years old, the outer casing has the expected scratches and minor scraps, it needs a little dusting and cleaning; but i will leave that to the soon to be owner.. The only thing which stands out to me, is a very small (around 3mm) knock on the top of the unit. This was done during transportation and bent one of the screws that hold down the back. The knock is very very small, and the screw is easily replacable, as i believe the threads on the plate are still perfect. I am only being critical here to give an accurate discription.I managed to measure the resistance of the voice coil with a multimeter set at its lowest setting of 200 Ohms. I got a reading of 18.3ohms. The field coil gave me a reading of 03.4 Ohms. The unit also has a very old paper tag ( to indicate it tested OK) this has ripped into a few pieces from being exposed to the air and light. I have all the pieces that came off the tag connected to the unit stored away in a glass jar.Higher res pics avaliable upon request.IMPORTANT This unit will be packaged Extreamly well and carefully, as i have followed online resources on how to prepare such an item.I will ship this item worldwide. The driver is extreamly heavy so shipping is going to be expensive. Insurance is highly recommended, as i will not be liable for the unit once it leaves my hands. For a shipping quote, message me your postal address. eBayers with low feeback message me first before bidding.Payment must fully clear before shipping comences. On Jun-26-08 at 15:15:42 PDT, seller added the following information: Today I am listing a vintage Lansing 285 field coil driver.
