Description
NAKAMICHI DRAGON 3-HEAD AUTO-REVERSE AUTO-AZIMUTH DECK Purchased in 1985   Serial No: A 801 14410120V /220V  Switcheable Model- For international use Condition:  Used , but like-new Appearance I am the original OwnerOriginal Double Box and Owner's Manual Included  All defective capacitors were replaced and this deck was refurbished and calibrated by Stephen Sank in May, 2005.I used this deck to dub my cassette collection to digital computer files.Recently, the transport stopped playing cassettes. Right side capstan spins normally, Left side capstan does not spin, and cassette-tray engages momentarily, then disconnects. This happens in both forward and reverse play. I'm guessing that this a a simple mechanical fix, possibly something as simple as a broken belt.  I just don't feel like finding a qualified repair service and shipping it back and forth before I sell it.  Perhaps this is the perfect Dragon for a knowledgable owner to repair and enjoy. It powers up normally. Wind and Rewind works normally, Electronics appear normal, monitor circuit works normally (able to hear audio-out from audio source being input to the deck) Overall, the unit is in super nice shape with all the lettering and knobs intact. Definitly well worth fixing. Shipping will be a flat $50 domestic.  Overseas buyers please contact me. A CLASSIC DECK FROM THE COMPANY THAT BROUGHT "CONCERT HALL" REALISM TO THE CASSETTEDescended from a long, prestigious line of decks that have raised the standard of cassette performance at every turn, the Nakamichi Dragon upholds the legacy with magnetic tape recording technology that remains without peer to this day. In an era where digital audio technologies predominate, the Nakamichi Dragon delivers astonishing sonic quality, producing recordings that are virtually indistinguishable from the original. DISCRETE 3-HEAD TECHNOLOGYNakamichi's acclaimed Discrete 3-Head Technology employs physically separate record and play heads. Unlike typical "sandwich" or combination heads, the record and play head gaps are independently aligned, assuring extended frequency response and wide dynamic range. Nakamichi Dragon Combined with the proprietary precision-laminated Crystalloy record and play heads, this technology extracts the last ounce of performance from today's advanced cassette tape formulations. ASYMMETRICAL DUAL-CAPSTAN DIFFUSE-RESONANCE TRANSPORTNakamichi's innovative tape transport mechanism uses different diameters (and, hence, rotational speeds) for the two capstans and flywheels. This, plus the use of special vibration-absorbing materials in the head-base assembly, attenuates and randomizes resonances, so that their effects are far less audible. Moreover Nakamichi Dragon, because this transport ensures exceptional tape travel precision and tension uniformity, the play head is fitted with a unique pressure pad lifter. The pad never contacts the tape; thus, head wear, tape skewing, and "scrape flutter" are dramatically reduced. The result is a remarkably open and transparent sound quality that simply cannot be matched by other designs. Nakamichi Dragon cassette deck OTHER ADVANCED FEATURES • Nakamichi Dragon Integrated play head/amplifier assembly places the playback circuitry right at the head assembly to minimize signal degradation.• DC servo capstan motor responds instantaneously to load fluctuation, further suppressing flutter components.• Nakamichi Dragon Motor-operated, microprocessor-controlled Silent Mechanism assures smooth, quiet, foolproof transport operation.• Bias fine-tune control enables you to adjust for variations among tape brands and formulations to achieve flat frequency response every time.• Bi-directional auto-search feature seeks the "zero" counter position in rewind or fast-forward.• Automatic tape slack take-up mechanism winds any loose tape fully onto the hubs as soon as you insert a            cassettte to prevent misfeeding and jamming.• Nakamichi Dragon Dolby B and C type noise reduction circuits are incorporated.• System Remote enables deck operation using the remote control of Nakamichi receivers. -An innovative tape transport mechanism uses different diameters (and, hence, rotational speeds) for the two capstans and flywheels. This, plus the use of special vibration-absorbing materials in the head-bas assembly, attenuates and randomizes resonances, so that their effects are far less audible. This transport also ensures exceptional tape travel precision and tension uniformity. The play head is fitted with a unique pressure pad lifter. The pad never contacts the tape; thus, head wear, tape skewing, and "scrape flutter" are dramatically reduced. Discrete 3-Head Technology employs physically separate record and play heads. Unlike typical "sandwich" or combination heads, the record and play head gaps are independently designed to assure extended frequency response and wide dynamic range. The Dragon cassette deck used a special microprocessor controlled azimuth adjustment called Nakamichi Automatic Azimuth Correction (NAAC) to implement auto-reverse. Because it continuously optimizes the angle of the tape head when switching directions, it does not need to eject the tape and spin it around to maintain proper tape head alignment (as with the Nakamichi RX series). This automatic playback head azimuth adjustment will automatically align the playbck heads to obtain maximum frequency response from any cassete, regardless of record-head alignment of the original source recorder. All items are described as accurately as possible. This deck had been carefully used and tested but sold "AS IS"  due to age, shipping and the sometimes odd expectations of people. No refunds are implied or given but will be looked at on a "case by case" basis. This item will be sent insured.    On Oct-10-08 at 23:17:17 PDT, seller added the following information:Posted shipping information is wrong.
