Description
Here is one of the rarest vintage recorders you'll find!  This is an RCA "magnetic recorder MI 12525" serial C 2777.  This is a rather amazing and certainly unique device.  It's a CARTRIDGE WIRE RECORDER!  Not only that, but it has two separate tracks!  If you examine the pix of the cartridge further, you'll see that this unit uses two large sturdy pressure rollers and capstan in the transport system, the same as tape recorders.  Controls on front panel are left to right.  Motor/tone/off play one, play two, rewind, record one, record two and volume/amplifier/off.  That's right folks, a two track wire recorder!  If you look at the picture of the brick sized cartridge, you'll see two separate wires.  Evidently, there are two spools inside and they're individually selectable/recordable.  This item dates from the immediate post WW II era, when a whole barage of new hi-tech gadgets inundated the American consumer market.  This one was intended for "pro use", most likely as a dictating/steno machine.  It has the great looking RCA deco bakelite case that was used on several RCA items of the era.  This was most likely a Raymond Lowey design or certainly an emulation of same.  This unit is in remarkable condition.  It comes with its' original dynamic microphone made by Electro-Voice, Buchanan, Michigan for RCA and a remote controlled foot switch for forward and reverse.  Also included is an original carrying bag in very good condition.  Inside the unit is electrically and mechanically pristine and is still in fine working condition.  About the only "flaw (s)" in this unit are the fact that there's a crack about 3 inches on lower left front of bakelite case.  This has been professionally repaired.  Also, the cloth the carrying case, which is in very good shape overall, does have some dryrot along the middle of the zipper.  We have loads of pix of this most interesting and rare item.  If you are seriously interested, you may contact us and we will e-mail pix direct for better scrutiny.  This item is running fine and in excellent original condition, as described.  However, antique items are sold as is.  Fair starting bid and no reserve on this item.  NOTE:  Please allow some extra bucks for shipping.  The case on this dandy gadget is bakelite.  I would suggest removal and shipping in a separate box.  Buyer pays shipping/customs.  We know how to pack!  See our other auctions for more cool stuff!  We do our best to describe these vintage items, which must be sold as is. However, if you are not satisfied and need to return an item, we request that it be returned in our original packing and in same condition as when sold. Buyers please note! Keep an eye on our auctions. We have recently acquired a large collection of pristine gray Collins S-line, Drake TR line ham gear, transmitters, receivers, transceivers, and accessories. Also, some dandy and pristine boat anchors by Hallicrafters, National, RME, Collins. You may e-mail with questions.
