Rarely seen on the used market, the N86B amp is a great well built amplifier with top notch looks. Sony spared no expense on this unit and the components used. It was expensive when new and was sold in higher quantities in europe than in the US. I have been using it with the matching Sony TA E88B preamplifier which I am offering for bid in my other auction. This amp is built like a tank, with huge fined heat sinks. The build is full dual mono. It can run in full class A operation for a super sweet and detailed sound. The face plate is billet machine aluminum. This is a stunning looking and sounding amp and I am sure those who are looking know how rare this unit is these days.The amp is sonically 100% operational. These are the physical flaws as I see them: The led that lights when the unit turns on is out. This is a common problem on Esprit and Pre Esprit units of this era from what I have seen online. I did not open it up to replace it. I  did read that the part is an off the shelf item that can be had at most electronic stores. The leading edge of the face plate has a few hard to see ndings from use over the years. There are no noticeable scratches to the face plate front. The top of the unit shows some scratches as well. This is a nice find for those who have been searching for a 86b or just for a super high end classic 2 channel amp.This unit is pretty heavy at close to 40 pounds.
