Description
Hello I am selling these ELAC hi-fi loudspeakers for a close friend of mine who is attached to these speakers in a HUGE way . There is a reserve on them . THE SPEAKER STANDS ARE NOT IN THE AUCTION BUT CAN BE BOUGHT AT CLOSING FOR $ 400.00 EDITIONAL DOLLARS PAID THROUGH PAYPAL OR BANK CHECK. I prefer bank check and if that is the way finance is handled there will be a waiting period for check to clear. PLEASE NO ZERO BIDDERS or LAME BUYS ON EBAY< SORRY ,BUT THANK YOU. There some distress surface scrapes on outside over speakers. There is also a clip on bottom of one of the speakers , the chip is saved in an envelope winner will get chip sent to them with the shipping of speakers. I will ship speakers in seperate boxes . Must be insured at buyers expense . For Sale: One pair Elac 510 Studio Monitor-type loud speakers. These are simply the best sounding speakers I have heard that sold for under $15,000.00 per pair. Cosmetically, I would classify them as an 8 ½ out of 10. One of them fell off its stand and sustained a couple of small chips out of the veneer (which I carefully preserved in an envelope, which is with the speakers). There is also a small blemish in one of the grille cloths. Beyond that, I can’t think of any other flaws in these speakers. Performance-wise, these are amazing, as the Hi-Fi World Magazine Review below (found at http://www.elac.com/dbs/tests/2002/021135.html ) details. They were also awarded the 2003 Component of the Year by the Chinese magazine, Audio Land. Another Hi-Fi World review called them, “Tremendously capable standmounters with a fantastically musical, open and transparent sound, but high quality ancillaries are a must.” The only speakers I’ve heard that image better are big electrostatics, like Maggies, or Accoustats, but unlike those beauties, these actually have some depth to them, reaching surprisingly deep, with a rated 3 db-down point of 32 Hz! They have a bright, smooth, articulate openness that simply has to be heard to be believed. They would be the perfect match for a tube amp of moderate power (Stereo 70s come to mind), since they can reach all the way to 35KHz! If I were to list any shortcoming, it would be their lack of efficiency, since they are only 88 db efficient; not a good choice for Bottlehead fans, or triode lovers. The Elac Jet Tweeter that is included in the 510 is the same one that is on their $15,000.00 top of the line model. In North America, these are exceptionally rare speakers; I don’t believe more than a dozen pairs were ever brought over, mostly as rep-samples. I know of 9 pairs that remain. For the hobbyist audiophile who wants the best possible sound, but doesn’t have ten grand, or more to spend, these would be an exquisite choice. The Elac 510s are bi-wirable and the shorting clips on this pair is missing. In their place, I will include a bi-wire set made from Ixos Gamma geometry wire (about a $175.00 wire set). I reserve the right to end this auction early, since they are listed (for $4250.00) in two other markets. . My friend who is helping me list these speakers has them in his possession, as insurance that nothing will happen to them during the auction. He is rightfully very protective of his high feedback ratings. Auction winner will be responsible for actual shipping costs. From Hi-Fi World Magazine: THE RIBBON TWEETERELAC 510 : "Founded in 1926. German Elac keep everything "in house" as opposed to using off-the-shelf components. This extends to the unique drive units featured in the 510 reviewed here. Measuring a sensibly sized 385×200×307mm, the ELACs are as solid as a rock. The actual design itself is pretty straight down the line, consisting of a well executed two-way bass reflex speaker with the port to the rear. What sets these speakers apart is their superb JET folded ribbon tweeter housed behind the Bauhaus inspired metal grill." "The JET ribbon utilises a special lamella type folded foil membrane and a strong neodymium magnet system. The membrane is apparently over 10 times bigger than a conventional dome tweeter. What a ribbon offers is superb treble quality, smooth and peak free, yet good ribbons remain rare. The 180mm mid/bass unit is another novel looking affair employing an aluminium sandwich membrane. It has a rubber surround with plenty of travel, hinting that there should be oodles of grunt and drive. The 510s are a cracking listen. They have power and depth in abundance, married with superb detail and, best of all, incredibly smooth and sweet treble. Paul Weller's version of Dr. John's 'I Walk On Gilded Splinters' had amazing groove and grunt and a massive sound.Imaging was superb, as was the deep and open sound-staging. The tape effects that pan from left to right veritably zipped through the ribbons to realistic effect and the overall sound was as exciting as it gets in a front room!Moving onto classical chamber music, Elacs showed that anything you chuck at them they handle with aplomb. Fauré's Piano Trio played by the Florestan Trio had a light and spacious feel, with beautiful tonality from the three instruments. The piano had plenty of natural body and depth and the strings had a jewel like detail and presence. The 510s are among the best at their price point, and that goes for the floor-standing competition too, as they have plenty of bass weight and depth....With the right partnering equipment the 510s offer one of the best sounds you can achieve today." Measured Performance "Elac loudspeakers are innovative and measure well, quite a combination. ...it still sports a ribbon tweeter and this gives not only excellent dispersion and a high degree of integration with the bass/mid unit, but it also has a wonderfully smooth and extended frequency response, our analysis shows. For smooth treble the 510 should be hard to beat, since a good ribbon tweeter is certainly preferable to any dome tweeter..." "Elac's inverted bass unit also works well, producing an output that extends smoothly down to 40 Hz. Below this a port that works at a low 30 Hz takes output down just a little further." "Elac usually manage to engineer a decent impedance characteristic ...The Elac 510 is well engineered, accurate and, with its ribbon tweeter, definitely worth a listen. It measures well and is a step ahead." "For out and out pleasure of listening the Elacs can't be beaten here. They have a superbly well balanced sound that has weight, depth and marvellous listenability. ...they are most enjoyable to listen to. That excellent ribbon tweeter makes for a delightfully smooth and sweet sound that retains Germanic detail but also delivers a great sense of warmth. They are superbly built and have a sleek, modern look. ...They prove that being different needn't be limiting - it can appeal to all."
